It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
