It's a challenge for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The greatest achievements have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and once went over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a squad that has achieved everything.

It needed as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batters to possess a record if not provided the chance.

In the end, the outcome of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have resulted from 10 attempts across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Many contend the case for final game tension. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was far harder to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she was the highest scorer, but this innings followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in training, it has been a frustrating experience because it seemed my form was missing at all," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive instincts kick in and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her major advantage - and a priceless quality in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to go out there and lock in a contest with her and simply enjoy myself in that aspect, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

When she was removed the team required another 66 at run per delivery - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Pursuing 330 is unfamiliar ground so I am glad we have the confidence to achieve that now," continued Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, should it happen, we know we can do it."

That comment will be the final thing competing nations at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this success following win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wanted to have participated through the pain.

However although she afterwards confessed those fitness problems have pushed back consideration of ending her career, this tournament is anticipated as her last as captain in 50-over cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as captain.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
